Apple has smashed all iPhone price records with the announcement of their latest trio of iPhones. The super-sized XS Max with a price tag of $2000 breaks last year record price for the iPhone X by more than $500. The XS is quite identical to last years X and the XR is the “cheapest” of the three.

With the headphone jack gone, now Apple has removed the home button from its newest generation of iPhones.

How does it work without a home button?

Exactly like last year’s iPhone X model. Instead of using the button to unlock your phone, the new models have Apple’s Face ID facial-recognition technology. To get back to the home screen you can swipe up from the bottom of the screen at any time.

Apple iPhone XS: The Complete Rundown

The XS is a direct successor to the previous iPhone X. It comes with a full-screen 5.8-inch OLED display, no Home button, a glass back and stainless steel sides. Though the design looks largely similar to the XS the ‘guts’ of the phone have got an upgrade. The iPhone XS gets a faster, more powerful A12 Bionic processor, a larger battery (Apple says it lasts 30 minutes longer than the iPhone X) and better water-resistance: IP68, which means you can dunk it in up to 2 meters of water, or 6.5 feet, for up to 30 minutes. There’s support for wireless charging and a slightly better screen.

“You are going to be blown away with the pictures you can take with the iPhone XS camera”, said Apple worldwide marketing senior vice-president Phil Schiller. “Some people call this computation photography. It’s making images possible now that weren’t before.”iPhone XS

The dual 12-megapixel rear cameras on the new iPhone XS models will let users alter background blur on images after they’ve captured them for the first time, and deploy a mode called Smart HDR that would use artificial intelligence to identify scenes or even users’ eyes. In Australia, it will start at $1629 for a phone with 64GB of storage

The XS Max – The Big Daddy

The Apple XS Max lives up to its name. It looks strikingly similar to an iPhone 8 Plus — already a big phone — that grew an even larger, better screen.

How big is the screen on the XS Max?

We’re talking about a 6.5-inch OLED display that’s a hair bigger than the Galaxy Note 9’s 6.4-inch screen. The XS Max is Apple’s largest iPhone ever.

It packs all the same technology as the XS but into a larger frame. The XS Max has a whopping 2,688×1,242-pixel resolution for its OLED display, versus the iPhone XS’ 2,436×1,125 resolution screen. Don’t be fooled, though. Both phones have the same pixel density of 458 pixels per inch. That means whatever you watch on either screen will look sharp. Apple says that the XS Max will last an hour and a half longer than the iPhone X did. The XS, however, promises 30 more minutes of battery life.

The Max starts at $1799 for 64GB, moving up to $2369 for 512GB and isdue in Australia on September 21,

Apple XR – The ‘Cheaper’ Option.

To balance the record-breaking price of the new iPhone XS models, Apple will also launch a new cheaper smartphone, called the iPhone XR, though even it will cost a minimum of $1229 and up to $1479 for the 256GB model.

Mr Schiller said the iPhone XR was introduced to help Apple “reach as many customers as we can”.

It features a less glamorous-sounding, but surely capable water-resistant aluminium body and a 6.1-inch “liquid retina” LCD display (at 326ppi) — instead of an OLED display like on the iPhone X.

Apple says it’ll come with “haptic touch” (not exactly 3D Touch), Face ID, better battery life than the iPhone 8 Plus, a single 12MP camera with Apple’s true-tone flash, Apple Pay, and an A12 “bionic” chip.

The device will come in black, white, red, yellow, blue and coral.
